Mandela Institute of Development Studies Scholarships: What Exactly Is Mandela Institute of Development Studies Scholarships? As part of its Scholarship Programme, the Mandela Institute of Development Studies (MINDS) has announced a specific scholarship to assist South African students pursuing full-time honours and master’s degrees in another Sub-Saharan African country. The initiative is based on the notion that forming a network of like-minded leaders will result in a more integrated Africa, with faster growth and beneficial outcomes that will benefit all of its communities.

The course to be studied is not prescribed by MINDS. Depending on whether a partial or full scholarship is obtained, the scholarship will pay some or all of the expenditures incurred while studying. The scholarship has a maximum value of $15 000 each year. Individuals with a Pan-African perspective, demonstrated leadership abilities, and a strong academic record who aspire to study on the African continent, outside their home country are invited to apply for the scholarships.

Degree Level

  • Honours and Master’s Degrees.

Deadline

  • Rolling basis – deadlines for certain regions in Africa vary, MINDS awards scholarships on a first come first served basis.

Application Process

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be a South African national.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree with exceptional grades.
  • Be applying to a university in Africa other than South Africa to study.
  • Provide evidence of demonstrated leadership talents or potential, as directed by the application form’s questions/requirements.
  • Fill out the online application form completely.

Fields of Study

  • All fields of study are considered.

   Scholarship Benefits

Scholarship benefits depend on whether a partial or full scholarship is awarded. The value of the scholarship is a maximum of $15 000 per annum. Generally, the following is covered by the scholarship:

  •    Tuition;
  • Accommodation;
  • One return ticket per duration of studies; and
  • A fixed stipend.
