NSFAS 2022 Application : National Student Financial Aid Scheme: What Exactly Is NSFAS 2022 Application : National Student Financial Aid Scheme About? Applications for NSFAS 2022 are now being accepted. Individuals who are already enrolled at institutions but lack money and are financially eligible for NSFAS funding are also eligible to apply.

Eligibility Status

Students who are a South African citizen or permanent resident who plan to enroll in or are currently enrolled in a public university or TVET college in South Africa and fall into one or more of the following categories are eligible for NSFAS funding:

  • SASSA grant beneficiaries (the SASSA COVID-19 grant is not included);
  • People with a combined household income of less than R350 000 per year;
  • People with disabilities with a combined household income of less than R600 000 per year

It’s critical to have the right supporting documentation in order for NSFAS to process your application in time for your registration at an institution of higher learning.

Application Process

Getting a shot at @NSFAS financing is simple and quick; there are no long lines or cumbersome procedures. To apply, you must first create a myNSFAS account and then submit your application online. To create an account on the myNSFAS site, follow these simple steps to submit your application once your myNSFAS account is set up and functional:

  • Step 1: Go to the ‘APPLY’ tab and fill out the relevant information in the sections on the screen.
  • Step 2: If relevant, upload any required supporting papers.
  • Step 3: Press the ‘Submit’ button. Your NSFAS funding application has now been successfully submitted.

Required Documents

Your NSFAS financing application will require the following documents to be verified. Take note of the following key documents that must be submitted in order to complete the application:

1. All applicants must submit a copy of their identification. The Department of Home Affairs will accept a temporary ID card.
2. Non-SASSA applicants must submit photocopies of their parent/s, legal guardian/guardian, or spouse’s identification.
3. Smart ID cards: a copy of the smart ID on both sides must be provided.
4. Proof of income: applicant and/or parents/legal guardian/spouse (where appropriate (non-SASSA)) should produce the most recent payslip, UIF letter, appointment letter, and retrenchment letter (applicant and/or parent(s), legal guardian/spouse).
Persons with disabilities should fill out Disability Annexure A.

If Your funding application becomes successful, NSFAS will cover your costs for:

  • Accommodation
  • Transport
  • Living allowance
  •  Book allowances
  •  Incidental/personal care allowance

If you are unable to complete the application by yourself, you can visit a National Youth Development Agency Centre, a Thusong Centre or one of our application partner’s centre near you, where a NSFAS representative will help you apply.
