SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA: DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Programme: What Exactly Is SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA: DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Programme About? As part of its In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Program, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides support to Sub-Saharan African students pursuing full-time Master’s or PhD degrees in their native country or another Sub-Saharan African country. The program encourages scholars to travel between Sub-Saharan African nations and builds capacity at Sub-Saharan African universities.
In this program, master’s and doctoral scholarships are offered for pre-selected degree programs at pre-selected Sub-Saharan African institutions in development-related and SDG-oriented subjects. Sub-Saharan African students are given scholarships to study and research in their own country (In-Country) or in another Sub-Saharan African country (In-Region). In addition to the scholarship for their full-time Master’s or PhD degree in Germany, holders of DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships are eligible for exciting financial options in Sub-Saharan Africa:
- Scholarship recipients may apply for a short-term research visit to Germany.
- During their funding year, scholarship holders are allowed to apply for one of six interdisciplinary summer schools provided in Germany.

Scholarship Benefits
Scholarship benefits depend on the country where the scholarship is taken up. Generally the following is covered by the scholarship:
- Monthly scholarship allowance;
- Study and research allowance;
- Printing allowance;
- Tuition fees
Only applicable for In-Region scholarship holders:
- Travel allowance;
- Health insurance
