Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals 2022-23: What Exactly Is Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals About? Universities in Sweden for the academic year 2022. The scholarship aspires to develop global leaders who will contribute to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as well as positive and sustainable development in their home countries. The scholarship program is designed for ambitious individuals with strong academic credentials and management experience. A total of ten (10) scholarships will be awarded to South African students who meet the criteria.

Prior to applying for the SI Scholarship for Global Professionals, applicants must have applied to a Swedish institution and shown proof of payment of the 900 SEK (Swedish kronor) (about R1 580) university application cost.

Eligibility Status for the support for university application fees and the scholarship

  • South Africans who are in excellent health and have a decent academic record.
  • Applicants must be accepted (or provisionally accepted) into a master’s degree at a Swedish university that is qualified for the Global Professionals program.
  • Must have paid the master’s application fee to University Admissions by the deadline
  • Prior to February 2022, you must have at least 3,000 hours of work experience in fields aligned with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development from a maximum of three organizations/companies (for more information on how to calculate employment hours, see https://si.se/en/apply/sisgp-who-can-apply/#other). Applicants will be required to provide a 3,000-hour work certification.
  • From September 2022, available and eligible to study in Sweden;
  • Make plans to return to return to South Africa at the end of your studies;
  • Have exhibited leadership abilities in your present or past jobs, as well as in civic engagements;
  • Applicants with a strong and relevant professional background, as well as demonstrated leadership experience, will be given priority.
  • Applicants must not have resided in Sweden for more than two years, be currently enrolled in a master’s program at a Swedish university, have previously received a SI scholarship, or have a Swedish university degree.

Application process

In order to apply for the scholarship, applicants must have applied to a Swedish university through the central application system at: https://www.universityadmissions.se/intl/start and paid the application fees by February 2022.

 Submit a Swedish Institute Scholarship application between 10 and 28 February 2022.

 No applications after the above deadlines will be considered.

Please note that the Department of Higher Education and Training does not award this scholarship. Applicants are responsible for conducting their own research into programs and institutions and confirming that the qualifications are recognized in South Africa. If there are any conflicts between the information provided about the scholarship and the information provided above, the information provided by the sponsor takes precedence. The Department of Higher Education and Training will not provide any additional financial assistance.

What the scholarship offers

  • Tuition fees;
  • Living expenses of SEK 10,000/month (~R17 000);
  • Travel grant of SEK 15,000 (~ R25 500) for the entire scholarship period;
  • Insurance against illness and accident;
  • Membership of the SI Network for Future Global Leaders (NFGL) – a platform to grow your network and experience, while in Sweden;
  • Lifelong membership of the SI Alumni Network – a platform for further professional development and to stay in touch.
  • The scholarship does not cover additional grants for family members and university application fees.
