Velemseni has come to prominence after assisting some of Eswatini’s most well-known performers, including Bholoja, Siyinqaba, and Nomalungelo Dladla. Her songs highlight Eswatini culture and aesthetics.
Velemseni has maintained her natural proclivity to communicate to the world through her music and message, while being a powerful and rebellious spirit by nature. Among the musicians who have had the biggest effect on her sound are Joan Armatrading, her mother, Grace Jones, and Tsepo Tshola.
Velemseni’s music, both musically and symbolically, relies on genres such as Swazi gospel, soul, African soul, cinematic, and traditional music to interpret and portray the mystique of the southern African environment.
The Eswatini guitarist and soul singer’s debut album, “We are People (2014),” featured relaxing vocals and great musicianship. The attempt was well received, with major radio stations across the country playing it.
Her jazz and classical training infuses her music with a new African pulse and seductive sensuality, converting it from an emotion to a rousing hymn.
Velemseni tries to leave her stamp on the global canvas, remaining loyal to her passion for her country and seeking to represent it with the seriousness and grandeur of the mountains that surround it, with her newest music video for “Barely” making the rounds on Trace Africa and MTV Base.
