Slim Q

Swaziland Music

Slim Q is a Swaziland-based music producer whose real name is Qiniso Dlamini. Slim Q has been rapping and producing since the early 2000s and is frequently disregarded in Swazi music.

Slim Q, hailed by his peers as the “go-to producer if you want a distinctive track,” is continuously aiming to sound unique. He takes an already existing genre and adds a slight twist that makes it distinctively you. His key influences are Robert Kelly, Timberland, 2 stix, Zwai Bala, Akon, and others.

In 2007, he produced the “Independence Day” album by Stealth Independence, a rap gang of which he was a part. This CD had music that had never previously been heard in Africa or the rest of the world. Because their music was so different, most Swazis did not believe it was made by Swazis.

Slim Q has influenced several musicians, including Mageng’Tsotsi, Ghetto Villah, Paige, NDR, Sisa, Cup and Lollipop, and Mageez. Among the musicians signed to his InQgnito music label, which he founded in 2004, are Ghetto Villah, Paige, NDR, Sisa, and Stealth Independence.

Despite not being as active as an artist as he once was, Slim Q continues to support other musicians through compilations, producing, and running InQgnito.
